Projection Mapping

We will be creating animations to project on the front of the Larry Thompson Building

Spectacle

For this opportunity, we were provided with a state-of-the-art Barco Projector. Barco is one of the world’s leading brands in projection mapping and digital imagery. We would be working with Barco to help bring the Academic Center to life.

Trompe L’oeil

Trompe L’oeil is an illusionary technique that makes a two-dimensional image appear three-dimensional from a certain perspective. Getting the distortion to emphasize a specific angle and view is the key to this technique.

Trompe L’oeil Test

Accurate details, shadows, lighting, and perspective are what will sell the immersion.

1 - Ocean

First Test (Mock-Up)

My goal with this opportunity was to bring the magic and majesty of the ocean to the audience.

I had to bring the Ocean more to life. The blue was consuming, monotonous, and too empty.

OUTSIDE TEST

Getting to see my animations on the side of the building was so fun! I did notice how flat it felt compared to other animations played that night. I realized that having the ocean be endless was backfiring, and that limiting the water to a dimensional object would read much better. It would also give me the opportunity to have fish and the Orca float outside of their aquatic confines.

Revised

I had to warp it a little bit and it looks much better now.

BARCO

I was able to find some great free models on Turbosquid, as well as necessary footage through Adobe.

My goal with this opportunity was to bring the magic and majesty of the ocean to the audience. Here was one of the initial mockups, very rough but a good place to start.
